Food, Agri-livelihood Expo set for NegOr farmers, entreps

The Department of Trade and Industry together with Pilmico, the food subsidiary of the Aboitiz Group has conducted Food and Agri and Livelihood Expo for backyard farmers and aspiring agri-entrepreneurs in Bayawan City.

The expo aimed to open up business opportunities for the local community by way of backyard farming or baking.

Pilmico supports the agricultural industry by providing farming communities proper education on starting up their own sustainable agri-business, said Anna Carreon, corporate communications supervisor of Pilmico Foods Corp.

The activity also gave way for better communication of business requirements as well as tips on how the attendees can jumpstart their agribusiness.

Several free seminars on animal husbandry for hogs and gamefowl, as well as basic and advanced baking demos were shared.

Carreon identified some 10 selected beneficiaries from Negros Oriental granted livelihood kits in the form of piglets, egg-laying machines, and bakery starter kits to help them begin building their very own business.

Piglet livelihood kits were distributed to Amio Family Farm Association, Pantao Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative, Luyang-Bato-Abis Farmers Irrigators Association, and Bahay Malaumon Farmers Association.

The following received bakery livelihood kits include Cansumalig Settlers Multi-Purpose Association, Janarco-Nagbalaye Agrarian Reform Cooperative, and Danawan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association.

For egg machine livelihood kits were given to Barangay Caigangan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association, Campanun-an Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association, and Candanqui, Azagra Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Organization.

“We aim to instill an entrepreneurial mindset to our attendees and encourage them to consider backyard farming and baking as a viable source of income. We do this by being their partner for growth; equipping and guiding them with the right knowledge and tools in their business journey”, Jeff Canilang, Pilmico AVP Feed Sales-Visayas, explains.

The expo was strung together with exciting raffles, fun games and activities, and a special cooking demo with celebrity guest chef, Chef Boy Logro.

Logro presented his take on Pinoy favorites using pork, chicken, and eggs which the attendees can also recreate at home and even market in batches for business.

Through the expo, Pilmico underlines its commitment to the local farmer as a Partner for Growth by sharing their extensive industry knowledge, practical business solutions, and quality products and services. (jct/PIA7 Negros Oriental)
