“Today is the 7th Death Anniversary of an honest and exemplary public servant whose legacy and principles transformed Naga and became the foundation of “Maogmang Lugar.”
These were the words of Mayor Nelson Legacion in his message as the city commemorates the 7th Death Anniversary of the late DILG Secretary and former City Mayor Jesse M. Robredo, Sunday, Aug. 18 at the JMR Museum, Civic Center, here.
Legacion recounted his personal experiences with the late Jesse Robredo who did not only inspired him, but practically led him to where he is now, being the Mayor of Naga City, and instilling in him the latter’s famous lines of “make the best better.”
“In our case as public officials, we can only do justice to the inspiration, to the legacies, to the principles led by former Mayor/Sec. Jess Robredo, if we make sure that we will not forget and practice that of making the best better, not only in matters of governance but also in ourselves,” Legacion stressed.
The significant occasion was led by Jesse’s wife, Vice President Leni Robredo with her daughters, Aika and Jillian, Jesse’s siblings, CamSur 3rd District Cong. Gabriel Bordado, Jr., city officials, former Mayor John Bongat, friends and supporters of Jesse.
In her message, the Vice President thanked all the Nagueños and the people who, after seven years, still honor and remember her husband.
“From our family, thank you so much. After seven years, you’re all still here. Perhaps, what we have left is one big source of comfort that Jesse is being remembered. But most of all, a big thank you for all those present whom he considered as family,” Robredo said.
Other than Mayor Legacion, Camarines Sur 3rd District Representative Gabriel Bordado, Jr. also gave his message as he honored the late Secretary for his exemplary work as a true public servant.
The simple but meaningful celebration started with a holy mass at the JMR Museum Grounds followed by a community flower offering, presentation of plaque to the Municipality of Tinambac as the recipient of Bridging Leadership Special Award, and the ribbon-cutting ceremony of “Jesse’s Portraits” Special Exhibit.
Other activities undertaken related to the observance of Jesse M. Robredo Day include; JMR 1st National Swim Cup, Launching of Star8 E-Jeepney, Basic Orientation on Liberal Democracy (BOLD), and a Blood Donation Drive conducted by the Kapisanan ng Sangguniang Barangay Kagawad of Naga.
